These negroes probably think I'm dead, kidnapped, or caught up like Elijah." Haha, no, no, I just wanted to take this moment to say hello to everyone and, once again, I apologize for not keeping in touch.

  • Thought Life

The most important aspect of a Christian’s daily life just may be his/her thoughts. Paul has commanded us to meditate on (Philippians 4:6-8). I want to use this entry to really talk about the role that scripture should play in our thoughts.
God has shown me recently that the single most powerful, effective solution to all of life's problems - nay, the ONLY solution - is to study the person of God and His Word.
    Check these out:
seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.
    - 2 Peter 1:3
Christ and His word are totally sufficient for life on this earth.
"and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."
    - John 8:32
God's Word has the power to set captives free from sin and death.
How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your word.
With all my heart I have sought You; Do not let me wander from Your commandments.
Your word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against You.
Blessed are You, O LORD; Teach me Your statutes.
With my lips I have told of All the ordinances of Your mouth.
I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, As much as in all riches.
I will meditate on Your precepts And regard Your ways.
I shall delight in Your statutes; I shall not forget Your word.
    - Psalm 119:9-16
Scripture is the only antidote for sin (New King James says "hidden in my heart").
A voice says, "Cry out."And I said, "What shall I cry?"
"All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field.
The grass withers and the flowers fall, because the breath of the LORD blows on them. Surely the people are grass.
The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever."
    - Isaiah 40: 6-8
What person, earthly object or concept do you know that will last forever?
Psalm 119:11 has had a new significance to me recently. Think about it, David discovered that the only way he might not sin against God was to do what? HIDE THE WORD in his heart. he was so transfixed by the awesome potency of the inspired revelation of the Almighty that he devoted 176 verses strictly to admonishing its dutiful perusing and careful application. This not only means reading, but research, note taking, mediation, pondering, and ultimately (AND most importantly) MEMORIZATION. Yeah, I've heard that all my life, but never thought it was a requirement..........huh, wonder why I kept tripping over the same temptation for so long? Go figure. How could I avoid sin when I studied God's word at my convenience, or read something, then walked away with no memorization or at best some paltry application. Colossians 3:16 says, "Let the word of God dwell in you richly." So, God's truth must LIVE within us, set up shop, reside in a mansion hidden away in the deep jungles of our hearts, secluded from all the hustle and bustle of the adversary’s immoral metropolis and evil world system. It must have a permanent residence there, be a lifetime real estate owner, refusing to give up its property to sinful real estate developers who like to turn your heart into a place of lustful illicit thoughts, ungodly speech, hate, pride, laziness, and all other forms of immorality. When you are continually drenched and soaked in the word and its precepts, the things of this world just aren’t appealing – in fact, they become loathsome to you.

I encourage you all to evaluate the content of your thoughts on a day-to-day, minute-by-minute basis. I’ve started doing this recently and have found that rarely is my mind pondering or memorizing a scripture. Rather, it is easily distracted by the smallest allurement or worldly diversion. It is my prayer that I reach the point at which my mind is devoid of any thoughts about myself and ensconced 24/7 by the person of God and his truth.

In addition to meditating and memorizing scripture, the bible also gives us two other tasks with which to occupy our minds:

    Prayer
    1 Thessalonians 5:17
    Colossians 4:2
    Ephesians 6:18
    Matthew 6:8-15 (the Lord’s prayer)

    Worship

“I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my
    mouth…”
    Psalm 34:1

(some verses that tell of the Lord’s attributes and deeds; try reciting some of them back to Him in praise).
    Psalm 103:1-22
    Psalm 108:-1-4
    Psalm 114:1-4
    Psalm 118:1
    Isaiah 6:1-7
    1 John 3:1

I encourage everyone to ponder scripture, pray, and worship throughout the day as you walk from class to class, eat, take a shower, wake up, go to bed, work out, watch tv, listen to music, drive, brush your teeth, talk on the phone, study, and at all other humanly possible times.

"O how I love Your law! It is my meditation
    all the day
. Your commandments make me wiser than my
enemies, For they are ever mine. I have more insight than all my
teachers, For Your testimonies are my meditation. I understand more
than the aged, Because I have observed Your precepts. I have restrained my
feet from every evil way, That I may keep Your word. I have not
turned aside from Your ordinances, For You Yourself have taught
me. How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to
my mouth! From Your precepts I get understanding
    ; Therefore I hate
    every false way."

    - Psalm 119: 97-104
Let it soak up in ya bones.
May the Advocate, the Lamb that takes away the sins of the world, bless you with Grace, peace, and His marvelous love,
    Bshay

    Random ramblings:

I recently purshased a box of Rice Crispies (snap! crackle! pop!) the other day at Wally World (Wal-Mart). And guess what? I open the box this morning to get my grub-a-dub-dub on (cough......Jukebox) and to my pleasant surprise I got a wobbler !!! Now to those of you who don't know about this wonderful free gift, in all Kellog's cereal boxes, for a limited time of course, you get a small round plastic object that looks basically like a big pill. It's weighted at the bottom, so no matter how much you hit it one way or the other, it pops - nay it wobbles - back into an upright position. For further delight, each unique wobbler has a different Disney character on it. It is now sitting pretty in my room.

Okay, seriously, now that I've reverted back to childhood, let me put my gotee back on and act mature. Can someone say "transition...."

I often allow my mind to dream about the day when (Lord willing; man! please Lord, 1 Cor. 7:9 like whoa!!!) I'm married to a 1 Peter 3, Prov. 31 woman, with little Bshay's and Braunshikas running around at my feet. Oh yes, what a God-given joy that will be, to have a family and raise up more workers for the kingdom. But then, a candid thought comes to mind. I remember all the times I disrespected, disobeyed, ignored, and dishonored my mother.........................hmmmmmm......Now wait a minute, what does that have to do with anything? I mean, all kids misbehave right? That might be true but God is clear in Ephesians 6:1-3 that children are to be honoring and obedient towards their parents, especially when living off of their resources. I mean this "is the first commandment with a promise!" Elijah wasn't playin when he pronounced a curse on a group of youths for disrespecting him in 2 Kings 2:23-24.

I must admit I never really applied myself to living out this verse fully. I let pride, self-entitlement, and selfish attitudes rule my behavior, instead of humbly submitting myself with reverence and meekness under the authority of my parents. Not saying I set the house on fire or stole the car or anything like that, but just in day to day situations not showing respect, being ungrateful, or getting a foul attitude. So, after I think about how cute and cuddly a baby son or daughter might be, I then think about them growing up, and doing the same things that I did (and still do) to upset me as a parent. That snaps me out of my little daydream real quick. Yeah, of course I will still love them through God's grace, but everytime they act a fool I will remember, I did the same thing, used the same excuses, and tried to play the same tricks.

Thus, if you haven't been doing so I would encourage everyone to join with me and honor your moms and pops for a change while you are at home from school. Lord knows it is not easy. But through the Lord's grace we can do all things.

    Grace and Peace,

    Bshay
